Our Statement Regarding the Murder of Charlie Kirk

For Immediate Release

Atlanta, Georgia – September 11, 2025 – We at American Speechwriter decry all violence and celebrate all freedom of speech. We stand firmly that no ideology, statement, or writing justifies murder. We stand just as firmly against those who celebrate murder. Any such attack or murder is a denial of the freedom of speech the United States of America holds dear at its core. Our commitment to free speech does not protect the individual who chooses violence as a means to silence others.

It says in the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” These unalienable freedoms—freedoms inherent by virtue of being human—are not unique to the United States, but belong to all people, Americans and non-Americans alike. We recognize that not all countries embrace this truth as fully as the United States, and we recognize that even here, in these United States, we are imperfect in our expression and execution of such freedoms.

We do not pretend our nation is in agreement, but we cheer on those who are seeking the path of democracy. We recognize there are difficult and seemingly immutable positions that might not have a middle ground. We also recognize that in the absence of such a middle ground, there remains strong frustration. We decry civil war and talk of civil war. We must use that strength of conviction to step to—and to stay at—the table of discussion, letting neither fear nor mockery block us from dialogue. Similarly, we will not block others from their necessary and coveted place at that table. We celebrate all discussion of peace.
