Weddings are about love. Girl meets boy. They are smitten, and then realize life is wonderful with each other, and they decide to commit to sharing their lives together. Love, love, love.
But wait! There’s more. Maids of Honor. Best Men. Bridesmaids. Groomsmen. Father and Mother of the Bride and Groom.
At the rehearsal dinner and wedding reception, speeches galore.
I’ve written a countless number of these. Serious ones. Ones filled with shared faith. Funny ones. Sentimental ones. All of them are brimming with love.
Saying, “I love you” is difficult for some people. How often do we see a post that skips the key word “I” in front? We steer close, but ultimately avoid an intimate gesture.
In a wedding speech, the ones avoiding “I love you,” speakers say things like, “I’m so glad you’re in my life,” and “You’ve been my best bud forever.” All good, but not quite getting it said.
How do we do that in a wedding speech? Is there a setup that requires a speechwriter? Do we start with a touching story, work in a puppy, baby, and something about ice cream, then lay on the big three words?
No. We simply include the phrase in the wedding speech organically.
Try it. Use it in wedding toasts, Facebook posts, and… yes, even regular conversation.
