Official Ram Trucks Super Bowl Commercial | Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. | Built to Serve
The now controversial Ram Trucks Super Bowl commercial quotes Martin Luther King’s The Drum Major Instinct speech. Slate claims the King Estate approved the commercial completely, showing a statement from the firm managing King’ intellectual property.
Dodge’s commercial shows people volunteering. They probably wanted to help connect a spirit of serving with the Ram Truck, which is a sturdy pickup used in all sorts of hearty projects.
The controversy is two-fold:
- Did the King Estate approve the ad (yes, but Bernice King, King’s daughter, says no)?
- Would King himself have been pleased with the ad or would he consider it among the evils of capitalism?
