Planning a TEDTalk?

What's your topic? We can help lift it from ordinary to extraordinary.

Ted Talks

What Makes a Great TEDTalk?

Besides having something to say, the speaker needs to be especially engaging. These are more than discourses or monologues, but work to connect the audience with a new idea. They are unique in that any topic can be covered, but audience members are expecting something special. There's an element of entertainment. The best ones are delivered by speakers who have a sense of drama, know their material, and are ready to deliver from first word to last.

They are efficient, with every word counting. No fluff. No filler. They are disciplined as a Twitter post, but as powerful as a bull. Traditionally, TEDTalks are limited to 18 minutes, or, as TED curator Chris Anderson says, "Long enough to be serious and short enough to hold people’s attention."

The immediate audience is local. It may be streamed live, and will be available online through a massive library. Two million people a day are watching TEDTalks online, meaning your talk can reach far beyond your initial local audience.

What's TED?
TED is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world. TED believes passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. (Adapted from TED.com).

What About TEDx?
Similarly to TEDTalks are TEDx Talks. According to Wikipedia, "TEDx are independent TED-like events, which can be organized by anyone who obtains a free license from TED, agreeing to follow certain principles."

Who Has Given a TEDTalk?
Thousands of speakers have delivered from the TED or TEDx stage, including Bill Clinton, Jane Goodall, Malcolm Gladwell, Al Gore, Gordon Brown, Richard Dawkins, Bill Gates, Bono, Mike Rowe, Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and many Nobel Prize winners. Not just well-known celebrities and leaders, but people working behind the scenes to change the world.
